An entirely new high school campus for the Merced Union High School District, this is a series of interconnected 2-story structures around a large central quadrangle. Facilities include a 1,400-seat gym, a 250-seat theater, cafeteria and library.

The first phase consisted of about six buildings housing administration, classrooms, gymnasium with large outdoor swimming pool, and library. The structural systems consist of structural steel moment frames with the exception of the gymnasium which was a braced frame structure. The campus is located on a hillside which required extensive use of retaining walls for some of the buildings, some of them three stories high.

We provided comprehensive structural design services for a new classroom building (shown, upper left corner) plus a gym building with team and locker rooms (shown, top). Also planned is an administration building and a library near the main entrance to the campus.
